After a highly anticipated wait, Avalon Airport has officially become Victoria’s newest international airport. This truly unlocks another world of possibilities for Tarneit locals. Already a gateway to the city, country and coast, the completion of this new terminal allows even greater access to the world beyond our shores.

The first airline to offer services from the brand new facility is AirAsia. The low-cost carrier will be running flights to Kuala Lumpur, switching its twice-daily service from Tullamarine to Avalon. This will provide greater access to Asian markets – which should prove to be particularly beneficial for exporters and tourists.

Speaking at the official ribbon cutting ceremony, Minister for Foreign Affairs Senator Marise Payne said the upgrade at Avalon represents ‘an enormous opportunity’.

More than 500,000 people are expected to arrive at the terminal in its first year of operation, meaning this could be quite the game changer for the region. Locals will enjoy close proximity to a global connection route. And, an increase in international tourism numbers will see an overall boost to the region’s economy.

Spread over 7,500 square metres, the $48 million terminal includes two duty-free stores, full bar and café, and state of the art baggage screening. More airlines and further routes will be offered in the future. This is sure to excite locals - you may never need to worry about a trip to Tullamarine again!

The southwest corridor of Melbourne continues to benefit from exciting progress – it seems now more than ever, the world really is at your doorstep in Orchard. Also, if you were thinking of booking some post-Christmas flights, now would be perfect the time!
