With the weather turned cold and the range of outdoor activities limited, winter is a great time to turn towards creative pursuits – especially during school holidays! Residents of Tarneit are well provided for in that regard thanks to the fantastic range of workshops and classes co-ordinated by Wyndham City Council for children and adults alike.

Here is a selection of activities just waiting for you to explore in the month of July, to help satisfy those artistic urges! All these sessions are held at the Tarneit Community Learning Centre, located at 150 Sunset Views Boulevard, Tarneit.

Portrait Drawing and Cartooning Workshop

Drawing is one of the simplest, most freeing activities a child can engage in, letting them explore character and representation with as little as a pencil and paper. These two school holiday workshops have been designed to encourage kids to get doodling by showing how to draw cartoons, portraits and human figures. The Cartooning Workshop is for 6 to 10 year olds and kicks off at 11am, while the Introduction to Portrait Drawing is for kids 10 and up and takes place from 12.30pm till 2pm. Places are limited!

Patchwork Toy Workshop

Indulge in your whimsy with this four-hour workshop in patchwork fabric toy making. Designed to accommodate all levels of experience from ‘absolute beginner’ to ‘almost an expert’, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn a new skill or be inspired to take your craft to a different level of inspiration. The cost is $30 per person, with the workshop taking place on Thursday 5 July from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

Pot Painting

The fun activities continue with this Pot Painting Workshop at the Tarneit Community Learning Centre. Intended for kids aged 7 years and over, it’s a great opportunity to play and explore, creating your very own pot by painting and learning new techniques. Let colour be your guide! This Pot Painting session kicks off at 2.30pm on Friday 6 July at the Tarneit Community Learning Centre. Cost is $10 per participant.

Kids Costume Dress Making

Give your kids a little something special with their very costume for play. With a little bit of fabric and a bit of guidance, this workshop will show you how to make a Fairy Angel or Knight costume for your little ones! There are some material requirements, so make sure you have what you need by checking the list here. The Kids Costume Dress Making class has been organised by WCEC, and takes place Thursday 12 July from 11.00am to 2.00pm. Cost is $30.

So don’t let the winter blues get your family down – put some colour in your life thanks to these classes and workshops and the fabulous Tarneit Community Learning Centre. Call 9748 9822 or email the centre for more information on any of these activities.
