An investment in Tarneit community

Community Centres are integral parts of Australia suburbs and regions. Along with libraries, they are places where residents can access the facilities required to gather, learn, and grow, building the sort of bonds that can serve to sustain the community in more difficult times.

Tarneit Community Learning Centre is one such example. Its purpose is to encourage life-long learning, personal growth and community well-being through the provision of accessible programs, services and facilities, fostering a sense of place through collaborative partnerships with training and service organisations, support and social groups, and even health services practitioners.

In welcome news, Tarneit Community Learning Centre has been earmarked for upgrades as part of a $5.5 million investment project by Wyndham City to improve facilities at the area’s major Community Learning Centres including those at Point Cook and Wyndham Vale.

The scope of works includes an upgraded foyer to better connect the Library and the Community Centre, more multifunction spaces able to accommodate quieter or more reflective activities, improved functionality of the kitchen and outdoor areas and general improvements to the service experience.

The idea is to transform these Centres into ‘mini Town Halls’, thereby making Council more accessible and responsive. Despite the scope of the works, the Library and Kindergarten are expected to remain open although there may be some minor disruption.

If you’re a present user of the Learning Centre or maybe have ideas about how the space can be activated to better accommodate the community, let people know!

The upgrade is presently in the design stage and the local Tarneit community are encouraged to provide feedback on the plans by contacting Wyndham City Council on 03 9742 0777, or via email at mail@wyndham.vic.gov.au
