Great libraries build communities

It is said that while good libraries build services, great libraries build communities. When it comes to the Julia Gillard Library and Community Learning Centre in Tarneit, this statement is especially true! Although the newest library in the greater Wyndham area, it is already known for its comprehensive collection and complete community vibe.

The library has over 30,000 items available for loan including items in English, Arabic, Chinese and Hindi; 24 public access computers; a group study room; silent study room and co-working space. Maybe the most community-driven aspect of this local establishment is the events and education programs it hosts for not only children and seniors, but every age in between.

Here are just a few of the many enriching programs run by the Julia Gillard Library:

Kids Lego Club
Every Tuesday at 4pm kids above the age of three can design, build and imagine with Lego. Hang out with other kids that enjoy Lego with this hands-on after school activity.

One-on-One IT Help
If you need focused support with computers and technology, this is the perfect session for you. Bring your own computer, tablet or phone, and learn how to use operating systems and individual applications under the guidance of the library’s helpful staff.

Craft and Conversion
A fun, two-hour crafting session for adults, where you can meet and converse with fellow ‘crafters’. Bookings are required, and there are limited, themed craft kits, or bring-your-own handicraft for participants to work on.

Language Café
Enjoy tea and coffee while practicing your English language skills through conversation with others. These fun, free sessions run weekly and are open to everyone, no matter what your English skill level is. Tarneit truly supports its multicultural residents, and welcomes those who are new to Australia.
