Werribee Sunset Safari
An African safari is a once in a lifetime experience, that is, unless you’re just a stones throw from Werribee Open Range Zoo. An attraction that brings a tiny slice of the Savannah to Melbourne’s south-west, this 225 hectare space is home to some of Africa’s most majestic animals.
As they behave in their natural habitat, many of these creatures are most active at dusk. This makes Werribee Zoo’s Sunset Safari the perfect time to spot giraffes, rhinoceroses, lions and many more incredible animals.
An African adventure for a good cause
The Sunset Safari is a new after-hours experience, which ultimately helps Zoos Victoria continue their important conservation work. Running every Friday and Saturday night from November-March, the evening provides visitors with a truly immersive experience.
Guests are greeted with drinks on arrival, then divided into two groups before setting out on their adventure.
It's an all sensory experience, with African drumming and dance performances sure to have you up and moving. There’s even a workshop element for those keen to learn some moves!
The evening also includes a delicious array of food, with appetisers to share and a feast of North-African dishes to tantalise the tastebuds.
The most exciting part of the evening is of course the guided sunset tour. Visitors will venture onto the Savannah, getting up close and personal with some of the world’s most impressive animals. Here you’ll find Werribee’s much-loved rhinos Kipenzi, Letaba, and Si Si. You’ll also get the chance to meet herds of giraffes and zebras along the way.
Proceeds from these unforgettable evenings go to international conservation partners like Rhino Fund Uganda. This group helps to protect the white rhino population of Uganda. And, with the help of Zoos Victoria and local communities, the goal is to eventually re-establish their population in the wild.
