Melbourne Toyrun’s 40th in Melton

Forty years ago, a group of forty motorbike riders from the Motorcycle Riders Association – inspired by similar drives in the US - gathered together some toys, and after a short ride donated the goods to the Salvation Army as part of a spontaneous outburst of the Christmas spirit.

So was founded the first annual Melbourne Toyrun in 1978. Within a few short years, toy runs were being held by motorcyclists and motor enthusiasts all over the country – and even around the world.

Now overseen by volunteers with the support of the Victorian Motorcycle Council, and with starting points all over Melbourne, the Melbourne Toyrun looks set for its biggest year yet at Melton’s Tabcorp Park this Sunday December 17.

Riders from all walks of life will be dressing up their bikes, trikes and scooters with Christmas trim and bringing gifts, toys and food for children and families around Victoria, with the Salvation Army assisting to distribute the generosity of the public where it’s needed most.

Currently, the Toyrun is seeking donations of new, unwrapped toys, non-perishable food (canned or dry food and drinks, for example), as well as donations of money made out to the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. Please, no wrapped, plush, or used toys!

For the event itself, there’ll be food stalls, face painting, a jumping castle, Trade Stands, Stunt Shows and more, with some of Australia’s finest vehicles on display for true motoring enthusiasts. Plus, entry is free, and it’s for a great cause.

The 40th Melbourne Traditional Motorcycle & Classic Car Toyrun is happening 10am-3pm December 17 at Tabcorp Park, Melton South. For more information, visit the Toyrun website or their Facebook page and help Kickstart a bit of Christmas spirit for those in need!
