spring cleaning

The days are getting warmer, you can start opening your windows to let in that sunny fresh air, and boots and jackets are slowly returning to the back of the closet. You know what that means? Time for a spring clean!

Whether you love to clean or hate it, lockdown is giving us all little choice when it comes to activities. So why not be productive and get your home feeling fresh! Here are a few tips to get you going on your spring cleaning blitz.

Clean the windows

One of the best things you can do to brighten up your home and welcome in the sunnier days is to make sure your windows are cleaner than ever. So be sure to wipe down all the windows, frames and tracks in your home to let even more light filter in.

Prepare the backyard

Everything outside that has been a little neglected through winter needs some extra TLC this time of year. From the windows to your barbecue, the outdoor furniture and even the garage could do with a good scrub down and clear out. Make sure everything is dust and cobweb free, ready for use this spring and summer.

Re-organise your closet

With the seasonal change, it’s always nice to take stock of what you’ve got hanging in your wardrobe and swap things out for the coming warmer months. Take everything out of your cupboards and drawers, give everything a good dust and sell, donate or recycle any clothes you no longer love. What does Marie Kondo say, ‘if it doesn’t bring you joy’ it's gotta go!

Rearrange the furniture

The placement of your furniture plays a huge role in making sure that you feel right at home, and sometimes it’s nice to change things up for the season. If you feel like moving the couch away from the wall and closer to the television screen or filling in that blank space with a cabinet, then feel free to get adventurous!

This can also be a great way to make your home feel more spacious and less cluttered.

Tidy up the kitchen

Cleaning up your kitchen can do wonders for your overall home, and it also happens to be the one place where small messes can go unnoticed. Look through your kitchen utensils and see if there are any that seem to need replacing, or just never used. You can also do a full pantry clean out and dispose of expired goods.

And let’s not forget the bigger things that can go unnoticed, like the inside of the fridge. Take the time to clean the inside of your fridge – reorganise the items and wipe down any spills. And here’s a handy tip: put a cup of bicarb soda in the corner with a couple of vanilla drops to keep it smelling fresh!
