We all know how valuable our environment is. It gives us life, after all. More and more, we’ve come to understand how important – literally, how vital - it is to protect it. And increasingly, we’re realising that all of us have a role to play.

One organisation in particular that has played a part in leading the public awareness around environmental matters is Planet Ark, a non-profit organisation founded in 1992 to help identify easy ways everyone can work to reduce the impacts of waste at work, home, and within the community.

To that end Planet Ark has created or contributed to a number of high profile campaigns, including National Recycling Week and Cartridges for Planet Ark.

One such campaign, National Tree Day, was started in 1996 as a way to encourage people to get out and connect with their community through the shared mission of doing something positive for the environment.

Since then, more than 3.8 million people have planted over 24 million trees around Australia – and the numbers just keep growing for Australia’s largest tree-planting day, sponsored by Toyota.

Spread over two days – the Schools Tree Day and National Trees Day – it aims to inspire, educate and recruit Australians to actively care for our unique land, to create future generations of committed environmental custodians.

This year, the nature-loving Wyndham community will gather at Heathdale Glen Orden Wetlands to plant and extend the protection of preservation one seed at a time. People of all ages are encouraged to join in. Remember your hats, and make sure you’re wearing appropriate clothes and footwear!

To get involved with the local event, simply email the organiser at Wyndham Council. You’ll find everything else you need to know at the National Tree Day website. If we all work together, it really can be easy being green!
