No stranger to the big screen

One of the most extraordinary things about the region that Orchard is part of is its immense geographic variety. From national parks, farms and rivers to open plains, spectacular coastline and ancient cliffs, across Wyndham City’s 542 square kilometres it can be easy to forget just how close to the world’s most liveable city you are!

Add to that the extensive infrastructure and amenity of its major retail precincts, technology and industry districts, plus the quick 30 minute drive to and from Melbourne CBD, and you have a locale that clearly appeals to one particular industry reliant on a range of landscapes, settings and quality services being located so lose one another...

Which industry might that be? The film and television industry of course!

That’s right, the City of Wyndham has proved to be quite popular with visual storytellers, both here and overseas. Beyond serving as background for numerous TV advertisements and small budget productions such as student films and other projects, some of Australia’s biggest productions of recent times have shot in and around Wyndham’s various locales.

They include television staples such as Wentworth, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Jack Irish, as well as sweeping mini-series such as Channel 9’s Gallipoli from 2015. The big screen also loves Wyndham, however, with the city having hosted major motion pictures such as Ned Kelly and The Dress Maker, as well as international productions.

It is, no doubt, a fine pedigree of filmic history for the region.

So next time you see a fleet of trucks around parked around an open-air tent, just think – someone might be filming their next blockbuster.
