From January to March, Wyndham Art Gallery in Werribee is host to Shifting Elements and Camp Dogs, a new exhibition from internationally acclaimed artist Kamahi Djordon King.

Kamahi first discovered his talents under the guidance of his grandfather, a member of the Gurindji tribe. His talents for sketching and painting would gradually unfold across a number of mediums and come to embrace performance and cabaret.

Formerly based in Melbourne, Kamahi now calls Katherine home. It’s a journey that has taken him gallery spaces and stages the world over. And from January to March, his work will be on display at the Wyndham Art Gallery, Werribee.

Given the verification requirements for indigenous art, Kamahi films the creation of his works for display alongside the finished works that feature in his exhibitions. Inspired by nature – and in particular, his sadly departed ‘fur baby’ Tanha – this is art that is at once sombre and playful, expressive and contemplative.

Shifting Elements and Camp Dogs brings Kamahi’s multimedia and sculptural qualities to the fore and promises to be an engaging and rewarding exhibition for the art lovers of Wyndham City and Victoria generally.

The exhibition is on display at the Wyndham Art Gallery, from now until 18 March. Admission is free. Learn more here.
