International Women’s Day Wyndham

-03.03.18-
Back

Following the first observance of a Women’s Day in New York in 1909 and the success of the women’s suffrage movement in Soviet Russia in 1917, what we recognise today as International Women’s Day was born.

Formally adopted in 1975 by the United Nations, the annual event is both an opportunity to commemorate the women’s rights movements of the last century, and to advocate for further progress in the various spheres where inequalities between genders still prevail.

This year Wyndham City is inviting interested parties to join them in celebrating International Women’s Day 2018, which carries the theme #PressforProgress and seeks to redress the global gender gap.

Local women will participate in a facilitated panel discussion to share their stories and discuss their roles in the community. There’ll also be discussion about the best way forward on the journey towards gender parity. Light morning tea will be provided, and the event is free and open to all.

If you’re interested in the #PressforProgress of International Women’s Day and wish to participate, RSVP Wyndham City by Monday March 5. It all takes place from 10.30am to 12pm on Thursday March 8 at the Wyndham Civic Centre, Werribee.
