The 1980s were an electric time. Big hair, bigger shoulder pads and pastels ruled the cultural imagination. As did a certain little past time known as the roller disco...

And in 1983, Laverton embraced the skates with gusto, opening West End Roller Disco to the delight of teenagers across the west, years before inline skates changed the scene for a new generation.

Despite that, the old-school skates never died, and although a there were a number of rink closures around the turn of the millennium, West End continued its roll - so much so that it continues strong to this day as Laverton Skate Centre, offering affordable skating sessions for kids of all ages, including the resurgent thrills and spills of Roller Derby.

The centre regularly holds Australian-first special event nights like ‘Roll Bounce’ (Rhythm and Jam Skating to authentic disco and funk) and ‘Space Skate’ (advanced late night skate sessions),  attracting seasoned skaters from around the country.

And, they even updated their sound system with top-shelf Italian made speaker components to ensure the highest fidelity skating experience possible. Now that's fan service.

Skate your way to health

Besides being a whole lot of fun, skating can offer a host of physical benefits too such as improved general fitness, plus better balance and spatial awareness.

Needless to say, if you’re after a great activity to take up with family or friends, you could do a whole lot worse than pulling on the skates and heading onto the rink.

With a vintage retro café, pinball machines and of course a jukebox loaded with only the best tunes, Laverton Skate Centre also caters towards birthday parties and even those looking to learn to skate for the first time.

So get rolling and check out their website for all the information!
