Founded in 2003 by professional storyteller, playwright and vocalist Alaine Beek, the award-winning Essence Productions brings our pioneering history to life in an utterly immersive fashion.
With the beautiful architecture of Werribee Mansion and the surrounds of Werribee Park as backgrounds - both original parts of the Chirnside Family land holdings – Essence Productions combine history, comedy and even a touch of the supernatural as they take audiences through these marvellous locations.
Their latest productions are ‘What Was That’, and ‘Down to Earth’. 'What Was That' is based on the story of the Chirnside Family in the aftermath of Mary Chirnside’s death, as the household help await the arrival of the property’s new owners. You’ll get a chance to experience the opulence of Werribee mansion in full!
'Down to Earth' meanwhile takes you into the daily life – and eerie darkness – of a 19th century farm, in an engaging mix of history, mystery and comedy. You’ll begin to wonder whether there really is something in those old tales of Black Anny…
