Wyndham Cultural Centre Announces New Season of Show Stopping Events

Wyndham Cultural Centre has just announced a stellar new program of events for the second half of the 2019 season and it’s a doozy!

A vast range of exciting theatre performances, music and movies will be running from July to December, including some of Australia’s greatest stories. With so much to see we’ve narrowed down just a few notable performances that audiences are sure to love.

Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts
In this riotous live show, classic fairy tales are turned on their heads! Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes & Dirty Beasts takes the world’s best-loved fairy tales and rearranges them with some surprising, and often hilarious twists. These silly stories take centre stage in this live-action play, which will certainly provide delight and disgust in equal measure! It’s fun for the whole family!

This show is sure to be popular, so get in quick to secure your tickets!

Performances will be held on Saturday 24 August, 1pm and 6:30pm sessions.

Possum Magic
This classic tale from author Mem Fox has been delighting young people all over Australia for more than 30 years. And in this performance, the captivating characters of this best-selling picture book are brought to the stage. Joined by an extraordinary creative team, Monkey Baa Theatre Company brings to life the characters and journey of this much-loved children’s story.

Performances of this enchanting tale will be run on Thursday 19 September, 10am and 1pm sessions, as well as Friday 20 September at 1pm.

The Sapphires
Written and directed by Indigenous Australian playwright Tony Briggs, this magnificent musical comedy is an energetic play with an equally fascinating story. If you aren’t familiar, The Sapphires follows the true story of four young Aboriginal Yorta Yorta women in 1960s Australia who travel to Vietnam to sing to the troops. The aforementioned Tony Briggs is actually the son of one of the real-life Sapphires!

Get your tickets to this amazing show if you fancy a bit of fun and to support a fabulous group of First Nations talent. The Sapphires plays on Wednesday 23 October at 7:30pm.

Lamine Sonko & The African Intelligence
This group definitely knows how to deliver a show-stopping performance! Senegalese singer and dancer Lamine Sonko, along with his 9-piece ensemble, have previously appeared at Werribee Open Range Zoo’s Rhythm of Africa series where the band wowed crowds with their unique sound.

On Saturday 13 July they’re sure to do it once again, bringing a unique blend of jazz, funk, afrobeat, reggae and salsa beats to Wyndham Cultural Centre.

Sunday Movie Club
The Sunday Movie Club is back with a new line-up of classic movies to keep you satisfied over the coming months. Sing along to the toe-tapping tunes of The Blues Brothers, journey to the Goblin City with Labyrinth or get involved with an interactive showing of Princess Bride.
