Tarneit Neighbourhood Watch

Our Orchard community is a tight-knit group, and although we all look out for each other it’s comforting to know that we’re also part of the local Neighbourhood Watch program in Tarneit.

Neighbourhood Watch began in 1983 as a way for the public to support local police in their fight against crime, particularly burglary and theft. Today more than half of all the 79 metropolitan and rural Local Government Areas enjoy this important service.

Neighbourhood Watch is only as strong as the community members who volunteer their time and energy to make it a success, and there are several things you can do to help.

The easiest way to be part of the program is to follow the Neighbourhood Watch Tarneit Facebook page. Here you will find information about recent crimes in the area and other community notices that affect everyone here at Orchard.

You can also subscribe to the regular newsletter, which is sent out by email, and attend free webinars to learn how to better protect yourself and your family against crime.

COVID has put a temporary halt on face-to-face events, but once restrictions are eased there’s sure to be a range of things you can do to get involved in other meaningful ways. Keep an eye on the Facebook page – and on the website.

If you’re interested in learning more about preventing crime in Tarneit or maybe getting involved in a more serious way, send an email to Rishi Prabhakar at tarneitnhw@gmail.com.
